📖 Course Overview

Sanskrit — देवभाषा, the language of the Gods — is the most precisely structured language ever created. As the root of all Indian languages and the vehicle of all Vedic scripture, learning Sanskrit is not just an academic exercise but a spiritual initiation.

This course begins with the very basics: the Devanagari alphabet (vowels and consonants), pronunciation, and writing practice. You will then progress through fundamental grammar — noun declensions (Vibhakti), verb conjugations (Dhatu), compound words (Samasas), and the rules of Sandhi (sound merging). By the end, you will read simple Sanskrit shlokas independently and understand their meaning without a translator.

Acharya Kavya Sharma's pedagogy blends traditional Paninian grammar with modern teaching methods — making ancient rules intuitive and joyful rather than dry and mechanical.

★★★★★

"I could not read a single Sanskrit letter when I started. After Week 2 I was reading mantras. After Week 8 I read a full Bhagavad Gita verse independently. Acharya Kavya's patience and clarity are extraordinary. This is the most well-structured language course I have ever taken — in any language."

"At 67, I wanted to understand the shlokas I have been chanting for decades. This course gave me that. The Sandhi section was challenging but the practice worksheets made it manageable. The certificate feels genuinely earned."

"As a yoga teacher from the UK, understanding Sanskrit has transformed how I teach. I can now explain mantra meanings to my students with confidence. The pronunciation guidance is especially good — Acharya corrects common Western mistakes with great sensitivity."

★★★★★

"I teach Sanskrit at university level and I took this course to see if digital education could match classroom teaching. I was genuinely impressed. The Sandhi module covers rules I have seen students struggle with for years — yet Acharya Kavya explains them in a way that makes it feel obvious. I now recommend this course to every new undergraduate in our department as foundation revision."

❓ FAQ

Do I need any prior knowledge of Sanskrit or Hindi?+
No. The course starts with the absolute basics — the alphabet. If you can learn any new script (Arabic, Japanese, Greek), you can learn Devanagari. Many students who took this course knew neither Hindi nor Sanskrit.
How is Sanskrit grammar different from English grammar?+
Sanskrit is a highly inflected language — meaning is carried by word endings (Vibhakti) rather than word order. A Sanskrit sentence can have its words in almost any order and still be grammatically correct. This is initially surprising but ultimately more logical and precise.
Will I be able to read the Bhagavad Gita after this course?+
You will be able to read simple Gita shlokas and understand their structure with the help of a dictionary and commentary. Full independent reading of the Gita requires our intermediate Sanskrit course. This course is the essential foundation for that.
Is there a Sunday Sanskrit conversation circle?+
Yes — every Sunday 8:00 AM IST, Acharya Kavya hosts a Sanskrit Sambhashan (conversation) circle on Google Meet. Completely optional but highly recommended. It is one of the most enjoyed parts of the course.
